The Caulfield Cup is a time for regular and recreational punters alike to bet on the race. Betting on the Caulfield Cup in particular is very popular due to the large number of talented horses in the field, meaning most horses are often offered at large odds. Furthermore, there is a large market for betting on the Caulfield Cup/Melbourne Cup betting double.

While many of the Caulfield Cup top performers go on tobe form part of the Melbourne Cup field the next month, other horses may also continue on to contest either the Cox Plate the week after or the Queen Elizabeth Stakes on Emirates Stakes day. Three-year-old fillies may also choose to compete in the Crown Oaks during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
